Who can apply?
ICS is open to 18-22 year olds living in the UK (including those who do not hold UK passports but who have indefinite leave to remain in the UK or are EU / EEA citizens currently living in the UK). To be selected, you will need to demonstrate motivation and commitment to help others and aptitudes such as communication skills and the ability to work with others.
ICS will also be open to 170 people aged 23 years and over, acting as team leaders or specialist project managers. You will work in a developing country for between three months and one year to support successive teams of volunteers.
How can you apply?
You can apply online. Your application will tell us why you want to take part in the programme as well as what you think you have to offer and gain from the programme. You will also be asked for some important background information. Before starting to fill in the form you will be told what information you need to provide.
Once you have completed the application form, we will let you know whether you’ve been successful (usually about 10 days after you submit your application) and if you have, we’ll invite you to an assessment day after which we will confirm whether you’ve been selected for the programme.
Volunteers will be selected against broad competencies and aptitudes such as the ability to work with others, flexibility and adaptability, and demonstration of positive, realistic commitment to the programme. Team leaders will be recruited against particular skill sets to act as group supervisors, project managers, or providers of specialist skills.
