UNCD has direct responsibility for a number of UN agencies as well as Commonwealth development institutions including, among others, UNDP, UNICEF, ILO and WHO.
Our role is to drive a coherent and strategic approach to strengthening the UN and Commonwealth systems for development, both inside and outside DFID, in order to improve their effectiveness in contributing to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

The Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Department works with DFID divisions, other Whitehall Departments and international partners to tackle humanitarian, conflict, security and justice issues that underpin poverty in some of the most vulnerable communities around the world.
Our goal is to reduce the loss of lives, livelihoods and property, the incidence of refugees, and internal displacement in conflicts and natural disasters.

The Stabilisation Unit, previously named the Post Conflict Reconstruction Unit (PCRU), is jointly owned by DFID, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) (the three “parent Departments”). It provides specialist, targeted assistance in countries emerging from violent conflict where the UK is helping to achieve a stable environment that will enable longer term development to take place.

The UK Representation is responsible for all aspects of the UK government’s relations with the Food and Agricultural Organisation, the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

The UK Permanent Delegation is a small DFID office based in Unesco headquarters to pursue the UK development agenda within Unesco. The delegation also represents the interests of other government departments, in particular the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
We also work closely with the UK National Commission for UNESCO which is based in London.
