Training and development
Professional Development within the DESG Graduate Scheme takes place in two phases:
Initial Professional Development 1
This lasts for a maximum of two years when you undertake work placements, training courses and Graduate Discussion Groups to prepare you for your first professional appointment. You will be centrally managed and funded throughout this phase. On successful completion of this phase, you will be re-graded to Pay Band C2 and appointed to an employing business unit within MOD.
Initial Professional Development 2
This lasts for a minimum of two years when you will develop greater professional responsibility within your employing business unit. From the start of this phase, you will be funded and managed by your employing business unit. On successful completion of this phase, you will be ready, and are encouraged, to submit an application for professional registration.
MOD also offers a wide range of development opportunities to all staff including:
- In-house development Schemes - for employees with senior management potential (entry through competition).
- Post-graduate qualifications - including MSc, MBA and Diploma courses.
- The Prince’s Trust – is a personal development opportunity comprising a mix of employed and unemployed individuals working together in teams on community and environmental projects within the UK.
- Raleigh International – aiming to develop young people by giving them the opportunity to carry out demanding environmental and community projects on expeditions overseas and in the UK. Raleigh also aims to provide young people with adventure. For example, projects may include trekking, white-water rafting and diving.
