    Site for the English and Media Centre, a not-for-profit trust that provides publications and professional development on all aspects of English teaching for teachers and students of literature, language and media in the UK and abroad.

  • Florence Nightingale Museum

    The Florence Nightingale Museum is located on the site of the original Florence Nightingale Training School on London’s vibrant South Bank. You’ll find the story of the life and continuing legacy of Florence Nightingale, the famous ‘Lady with the Lamp’, who reformed and professionalised nursing. With objects owned or used by Florence Nightingale, material connected with the Crimean War (1854-56): military, hospital and nursing and objects connected with the Nightingale School and St. Thomas' Hospital (1860-1910) and healthcare today.

    You’ll find a lively programme of learning sessions, for schools to adult and specialist groups, and changing temporary exhibitions. Key stage 1 “Why do we remember Florence Nightingale?” primary sessions are held every day. Guided tours are available most week days. You might even meet Florence in person!

    The Museum webshop sells a range of books, souvenirs, postcards and educational material.

  • Imperial War Museum

    The Imperial War Museum is unique in its coverage of conflicts, especially those involving Britain and the Commonwealth, from the First World War to the present day. It seeks to provide for, and to encourage, the study and understanding of the history of modern war and ‘war-time experience’.

  • National Archives

    The National Archives is the official archive for England, Wales and the central UK government, containing 900 years of history from Domesday Book to the present, with records ranging from parchment and paper scrolls through to recently created digital files and archived websites. Increasingly, these records are being put online, making them universally accessible.

  • North East Wales Institute of Higher Education

    Hundreds of free resources to download for teaching and revising English Language and Literature to 11 – 18 year olds.

  • Teach It

    Specialises in English, Drama and Media Studies from primary to post-16. Offers 9,499 pages of classroom materials, schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching tools.

  • Universal Teacher

    Language and literature resources for students aged 11-16. Offers ideas for tutorials and suggests potential resource materials to support these.
