Remembrance Day
3. Reflection
Required Resources
- Video: Sacrifice
- Slides 11-15
Delivery
- Slides 11-15 highlight some of the conflicts and events that have occurred since the World Wars. This encourages students to consider the significant developments and changes that have occurred during the lifetime of the WW1 generation and emphasises the significance of this milestone in our nation's history.
- To appreciate and reflect on the sacrifices that are made in service to our country play Video: Sacrifices, which contains extracts of people talking about their loss of a loved one or relative.
- At this stage or at the start of Episode 2, it might be necessary to highlight that this is a difficult topic, and that it can be difficult talking about death, and a violent death is all the more difficult to deal with, even during a war. We must remember that these brave people didn't die in vain, but gave their lives to preserve the very things that we sometimes take for granted. By considering the value of these things, we honour their sacrifice.
- Ask students to comment on the video, how does it make them feel?
