Remembrance Day
2. What are we remembering?
Required Resources
- Slides 8-10
Delivery
- The exercise in Episode 1 leads into an explanation of Remembrance Day.
- It should be highlighted that 2009 represents a significant year of remembrance as we have seen the passing of the last three remaining WW1 veterans living in Britain. This is being marked by a national event called The Passing of the WW1 Generation. Details can be found in the Teacher Notes.
- However, it must also be highlighted that Remembrance Day is not limited to First World War veterans. It honours the contributions made by all Service Personnel in all conflicts since the First World War. With the recent loss of life in Afghanistan, this year is as significant as ever.
