Writing to entertain

4 (Plenary): Perform and feedback

Required Resources

  • None required

Delivery

  • In the same pairs as the previous episode students are to choose one of their draft entrances to act out. One of the pair should act as a narrator setting the scene whilst the second member performs the behaviour and actions of their character.
  • One or two examples can be performed in front of the whole class. After the performances initiate a class discussion to provide feedback to the writers. Ask the class: What stereotype is being parodied? From what the writer has produced, identify one phrase you like and one you feel needs to be improved.
  • Perhaps ask students to look at and compare the different responses/results produced by male and female students to see if each group focuses more on different characteristics.

Differentiation

Higher Ability:

Ask students the following question: 'In a selected parody (e.g. 'Borat', "Inspector Cluseaux", "Brian" in Life of Brian) consider what is really being parodied?'
