Major body systems
RM fitness & physiotherapy
Synopsis
Students are introduced to the seven major body systems and their roles before examining how the systems inter-relate. Using case studies students then consider how damage to each of the systems can impact on performance.

Learning Outcomes
Lower ability students will:- Have some awareness of the skeleton, joints and muscular systems. Be able to explain in basic terms how they work together to produce movement in basic sporting activities.
- Be able to give examples of actions / activities that are positively influenced by the performance of specific body functions.
- Be able to explain how being fit and healthy can make the skeletal system stronger and more efficient and the muscular system stronger and bigger.
- Be aware that fitness and efficiency are vital to UK Service Personnel in operational activities.
- Be aware how the skeleton, joints and muscles relate to each other when a performer is in action in their own sport.
- Understand the role of specific body systems in our performance and be able to give multiple examples.
- Be able to explain how good physical health and an active lifestyle can positively affect performance of either the skeletal or muscular system.
- Understand the need for all UK Service Personnel to be very fit and understand the specific implications of good fitness to troops in operational theatres.
- Have a strong awareness of how the skeleton, joints and muscular systems relate during participation in a range of different physical activities.
- Have a good awareness of the importance of each of our body systems when undertaking specific tasks.
- Be able to explain how and why good physical health and an active lifestyle will help the major body systems to positively affect performance.
- Fully understand the need for all UK Service Personnel to be very fit and active and understand the specific implications of good fitness to troops in operational theatres.
