2. The deadlock

- The end of the First World War - Submarines

Delivery
- Briefly recap on the fact that the First World War was a battle of attrition, with both sides heavily dug into fortified trenches and attempting to wear the other down slowly.
- Explain that having looked at the technologies which made the War into a battle of attrition, the class are now going to examine three other (in some cases new) technologies which had a major impact on bringing an end to the War.
- Display three pieces of video footage showing the technologies in question - Tanks, Submarines and Aircraft.
- Ask students to fill in the 'Rate My Technology' grid on Student Worksheet 2. Students to put a mark out of five for effectiveness next to each technology and a sentence to justify whether or not they think the technology would be effective in breaking the deadlock.
