Factors affecting performance
4. Preparing for an event
Required Resources
- Student Worksheet 2
- Slide 8
Delivery
- Distribute a copy of student Worksheet 2 to each student.
- Ask them to examine the information on the Worksheet and look at the accompanying images.
- Using the information as a guide, students should complete the table for each event, noting down the long and short term dietary considerations which competitors should take, which elements of fitness the competitors should concentrate on during their preparations and any acclimatisation exercises which the competitors should undertake beforehand.
Differentiation
Lower Ability:
Some lower ability students may require a reminder of the different types of fitness. In this case display Slide 8 which contains a list for their reference.
Higher Ability:
Higher ability students could be asked to produce two tables, one indicating the exercises which men should carry out in preparation for the event and one for women. Students should indicate the reasons behind any differences in preparation.
