Factors affecting performance
2. Multiple factors
Required Resources
- Student Worksheet 1
Delivery
- Divide the class into pairs and distribute a copy of Student Worksheet 1 to each pair. Ask students to examine the images on Student Worksheet 1 and complete the table detailing the environmental conditions faced by the military sportsmen and sportswomen and the potential impact of each one on their performance.
- Conduct a class discussion where students explain which conditions they have noted down. Record the students' suggestions on the board.
- Draw two columns on the board, one to contain those conditions from the list more commonly faced in our everyday lives and one to contain the conditions which are more likely to affect military personnel on operations.
- Ask students to place each condition in one of the columns.
Differentiation
Lower Ability:
Lower ability students may benefit from conducting a class discussion around the images in question and completing the first two columns of the table as a class.
Higher Ability:
Higher ability students could also be asked to contribute any other conditions (not shown in the images) which they think could affect sportsmen and women's performance.
