Explore, analyse and imagine
2. Writing to inform
Required Resources
- Student Worksheet 2-3
- Slide 8
Delivery
- Distribute Student Worksheet 2 which contains the Speaking & Listening mark scheme. Emphasise the importance of creating a 'credible role' which 'engages the interest of the audience'.
- Conduct a brainstorm with pupils to ascertain how this could be achieved, specifically focussing on the use of language.
- Ask students to suggest elements which would go towards making dialogue believable (e.g. emotional reactions, pauses, dialect terms, etc). Note any suggestions on the board for later reference.
- As a refresher exercise ask students to identify which of the techniques listed on Student Worksheet 3 can be used when writing to inform and explain. Reveal Slide 8 which contains the correct answers.
Differentiation
Lower Ability:
Task 2 on Student Worksheet 3 can be used by lower ability students to help consider how to create a believable character.
