2. Humanitarian Aid - Duration 10 mins

  • Introduce the role of UK Armed Forces in providing humanitarian aid.
  • Students watch three videos which outline the conditions following the 2004 South East Asian Tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The videos also explain the role played by British Armed Forces in providing humanitarian aid following each disaster.
  • Explain that students will be asked to design an emergency shelter for use by the Armed Forces when providing humanitarian aid after one of these crises.
  • Students take notes from the videos.
  • Process information, picking out relevant details from a source.

3. Design a shelter - Duration 20 mins

  • They should produce detailed designs of the shelter as well as a PowerPoint presentation to accompany their design.
