- 2. The respiratory system
Breathing and respiration
2. The respiratory system
Required Resources
- Student Worksheet 1
Delivery
- Distribute a copy of Student Worksheet 1 to each student. The worksheet contains a picture of a Royal Navy diver in full kit. Explain that whilst all the kit he is wearing is important to helping him perform, his lungs are the most important piece of kit and to perform effectively and efficiently he must be able to control them and understand the types of gases which are being inhaled.
- Alongside the photo is a diagram of the respiratory system. Students should link each part of the respiratory system with its respective name description.
- You may choose to complete this as a class exercise, or invite students to attempt alone, and then share and discuss their answers.
Differentiation
Lower Ability:
Students may need help with the pronunciation of some labels.
Higher Ability:
Print out Student Worksheet 1 with the description of each element obscured. Students should attempt to label the diagram and write their own descriptions for each part.
