Synopsis

An interactive and multi-media assembly plan supporting understanding of the work of the Armed Forces and Armed Forces Day. The Assembly Plan was developed for delivery before Armed Forces Day (which falls on the last Saturday in June) but can be used afterwards, supporting in-school events to commemorate and learn about the work of the Armed Forces.

Learning Outcomes

Lower ability students will:
  • Be aware that there are three Services of the Armed Forces and understand that they do not have a purely defence-related role.
  • Be aware of Armed Forces Day and understand that civilian involvement is welcome.
  • Be aware of any local events taking place specifically to support Armed Forces Day, either in the school or locally. Understand how to become involved if so desired.
Average ability students will:
  • Be able to name the three Services of the Armed Forces and be aware of the breadth of their roles.
  • Be familiar with the objective of Armed Forces Day, key dates and events and understand how to get involved.
  • Be aware of any local events taking place specifically to support Armed Forces Day, either in the school or locally. Understand how to become involved if so desired.
Higher ability students will:
  • Be able to name all three Services of the Armed Forces and be conversant with the breadth of their roles.
  • Be conversant with the objective of Armed Forces Day, key dates and events and understand how to get involved.
  • Be aware of any local events taking place specifically to support Armed Forces Day, either in the school or locally. Understand how to become involved if so desired.
