Required Resources

  • Slides 9-12
  • Student Worksheet 2a-b

Delivery

  • Distribute Student Worksheets 2a-b to students. The Worksheets feature a list of the kit with which soldiers were issued when they signed up to fight in the First World War, an account from a soldier about the amount of kit he had and pictures to illustrate the volume of kit they were expected to carry.
  • Split students into mixed ability groups of four and ask them to consider how useful they thought the kit issued would have been. Can they identify any problems which specific items of kit may have caused?
  • Ask each group to feedback to the class. Ensure each member of the group contributes during feedback.

Differentiation

Lower Ability:

Mixed ability groups aid differentiation.

Higher Ability:

Mixed ability groups aid differentiation.
