Cultural diversity

Ethnic diversity in the Armed Forces

Synopsis

This Assembly Plan supports PSHE and Citizenship but provides an excellent opportunity to deliver the cross-curriculum dimension on identity and cultural diversity. It raises awareness of the incredible contributions and sacrifices that have been made by individuals from ethnic minority communities in the UK Armed Forces; helping to defend our country and providing security throughout the world. It challenges students' assumptions and encourages them to reflect on how our country has been positively shaped by different ethnicities and cultures joining together.

This Assembly Plan aims to develop a positive attitude to the UK's cultural diversity and helps to develop a shared and cross-cultural sense of pride and belonging. It could be delivered on National Diversity Day (5th October) or Veterans' Day (27th June) or during Black History Month in October each year.
