Product analysis

3: Product analysis

Required Resources

  • Slides 16-53 (exc 20-21)
  • Student Worksheet 1-4
  • Video: Helmets trialled and tested
  • Video: Camouflage during the World Wars

Delivery

  • Use Slides 16-19 to explain what is meant by 'product analysis'. These Slides present examples of the kinds of questions you should ask when analysing a product. You could go through the Slides using a civilian product as an example.
  • Split the class into groups of 3 or 4 and ask them to select a piece of combat clothing kit to produce an analysis. Distribute the relevant resources:
  • Helmets - Student Worksheet 2 and Video: Helmets trialled and tested
  • Waterproofs - Student Worksheet 3 and online video - Gore trialled and tested: http://tinyurl.com/4mjyrc (copy and paste).
  • Camouflage -Student Worksheet 4, Student Slides 22-37 and Video: Camouflage during the World Wars
  • They should also draw on the notes and learning from the previous Episodes. You may need to give students access to an ICT suite to view the Videos or you could designate times for each group to use the class room video player.
  • Students should create a poster which analyses the piece of kit. You could also give them the option of using PowerPoint but they need to include an image of the item they are analysing. They can use the Product Analysis writing framework on Student Worksheet 1 to help them prepare. Each group should identify pros and cons and areas for development.
  • The answers to the Spot the Soldier Slides can be found on Slides 38-53.

Differentiation

Lower Ability:
