Delivery
- Project Slides 22-25 which give an outline of the UK Armed Forces' role in the Balkans. Video: UK Armed Forces in Bosnia, provides a general insight to the kind of work they carried out. It also helps students to visualise the country's landscape.
- Distribute Student Worksheet 4 which is a British Legion press release which reports a recent commemoration service for the UK Armed Force members who died in Bosnia.
- Ask students to read the press release and to consider the soldiers' human rights during their peace keeping role in Bosnia.
- Using their knowledge and opinions from the previous Episode and the information in the article, ask the class to discuss whether the British soldiers' human rights were breached or not. Are any of their universal human rights being infringed? If so, which one? Explain.
Differentiation
Lower Ability:
Instruct students to go through the list of human rights on Student Worksheet 4, identifying which right has or has not been breached.
