Required Resources

  • Student Worksheet 3
  • Thesaurus / dictionary

Delivery

  • Distribute Student Worksheet 3 which sets the students' writing task. It provides Polly's diary entry for 'Day 31 on 31st December 2006'.
  • Explain that they will shortly have to complete the rest of the diary entry following on from the opening statement that is provided. This must emphasise Polly's physical and emotional state and her reactions to the environment surrounding her.
  • Students should use this Episode to plan their pieces as a series of paragraphs. They can do this via brainstorms, a timeline or a series of simple storyboards.
  • Emphasise that the piece must be believable and realistic and should leave the reader anxious to learn more.
