3. Campaign planning - Duration 20-30 mins

  • Students work in role of a local campaign group who have come together to tackle a problem in their local area or school. They plan a campaign that will raise awareness of the issue and influence others to tackle the problem.
  • Students firstly brainstorm and discuss things that they like and dislike about their school and local community.
  • They then select an issue and use Student Worksheet 1 to produce a campaign plan and a presentation of their proposal.
  • Play Audio: Challenge tips, to hear Polly's tips for taking on a challenge.
  • Teamwork. Learn to respect and value other people's values and contributions.
  • Consider how their campaign can make a difference to their school or local community.
  • Research and plan an effective campaign to raise awareness of the issue and influence others to tackle the problem.

4. Campaign presentation - Duration 20-30 mins

  • The presentations are delivered using the 'Training Trio' concept.
  • Every group will play the role of 'Influencers', 'Observers' and 'Target audience'.
  • Each presenting group will have 5 minutes to win the support of their target audience which is decided by a vote.
  • Record the observers' positive comments so that a checklist for effective campaigns and pitches is formulated.

5. Plenary - Public vote - Duration 5-10 mins

  • Finally, the most successful campaign is put out for public vote. Students write the name of their chosen campaign on a piece of paper and the most effective campaign is revealed.
