Delivery

  • Project Slide 4. This Slide shows some of the countries involved in the Slave Trade (shaded in red). This map should be used to explain the extent of the trade, thereby highlighting the difficulty in suppressing it.
  • You might also like to remind students of the Slave Trade triangle -highlighting the main trade route.
  • Using the supporting notes, explain some of the reasons for the change in opinion. Why did Britain now oppose such a lucrative trade?
  • Now project Slide 5 which details events leading up to and following the 1807 Act.
  • Encourage students to explain why they think the trade was so difficult to suppress following the 1807 Act.

More able students can be encouraged to explain the Slave Trade triangle route to other members of the class.
