Homeostasis
5. Plenary - Victory
Required Resources
- Slides 38-43
- Audio: Victory at the South Pole (1m 24s)
- Video: Extreme working conditions
Delivery
- Present Slides 38-39 and play Audio: Victory at the South Pole, to hear how Polly felt when she reached the South Pole and her words of advice for anyone taking on a challenge.
- Acknowledge that due to the nature of Armed Forces work, military personnel are continually exposed to very challenging environments that push homeostatic mechanisms to their limits. Military personnel can be sent to any part of the world to do their work and they have to know how to cope with very different climates. Project Slides 40-43 which demonstrate these conditions and play Video: Extreme working conditions.
- Ask if students were inspired by Polly's experience. Ask who would like to trek to the South Pole? Ask students to tell the class about challenges they have completed or that they would like to achieve one day.
