Civil society, life events & people
6: The role of the MOD and the Armed Forces
Required Resources
- Slides 27-34
Delivery
- Explain that the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is the government body that controls the Royal Navy (RN), the Army and the Royal Air Force (RAF). The MOD's main objective is to defend Great Britain and its interests.
- With use of Slides 28 - 34 you can introduce the idea that the modern day MOD and Armed Forces play a wide-ranging role. You might like to explain that, while the MOD and the Armed Forces' most important role is still that of defending our nation's interests they are involved in many other projects such as helping to rebuild communities affected by disaster, counter drugs and counter narcotics work worldwide etc. They also undertake diverse and important domestic roles such as helping rescue people during times of flooding and providing a reserve fire service during strikes.
