Civil society, life events & people
4: You can't remember those you don't know...
Required Resources
- Slide 17-25
Delivery
- During this Episode, introduce the notion of remembrance, encouraging students to recognise the necessity of remembering both war heroes and whole generations who made sacrifices for the greater good, be it through the enforced hardships of rationing, going to war or through producing supplies for troops.
- Slides 21 - 25 present a variety of war heroes, both high profile (Winston Churchill) and not (seaman and soldier Sidney Godley and Jack Foreman Mantle). Slides also include heroic servicemen from modern campaigns. You might like to use these to demonstrate to the students the devotion shown by ordinary servicemen to protecting freedom and the importance of preserving their memory and remembering living service personnel.
- Before accessing the text on the Churchill slide you might like to encourage student interaction by asking them if they remember Churchill and for what?
