Writing to imagine

6. Peer assessment

Required Resources

  • None

Delivery

  • Divide students into pairs and ask each student to read their piece of imaginative writing to their partner. Students should critique their partner's writing and aim to provide constructive assessment wherever possible.
  • Encourage students to highlight clever use of descriptive language. You may like to ask students to volunteer some of the highlighted passages to the class. The class could then discuss the effectiveness of the passages, offering constructive feedback.
  • Ensure that all students understand that they must conduct this task in a mutually respectful manner. Students may need guidance with this.

Differentiation

Lower Ability:

Students who have not managed to write their own piece in time for the peer assessment could utilise this time to help develop and extend their partner's ideas and take notes wherever possible so that in the next lesson they are able to complete their piece.

Higher Ability:

Students to take note of the suggestions provided before extending and developing their stories as a homework activity (or in class if time allows).
