Vaccinations and their risks
2. Vaccinations - how does it work?
Required Resources
- Slides 6-8
Delivery
- Episode 2 explains the vaccination process and the means whereby an individual gains immunity to a specific disease or strain of a disease.
- Supporting Slides illustrate the way in which an individual generates 'active immunity'. This is the means by which our bodies are stimulated via dead or weakened versions of pathogens to create antibodies and 'memory cells', offering subsequent protection against the live version of the same. Passive immunity is where antibodies are passed directly to an individual either deliberately or through the placenta.
