- 2: Focus on oil
Energy and resources
2: Focus on oil
Required Resources
- Slides 4-5
- Student Worksheet 1
Delivery
- Distribute copies of Student Worksheet 1. The worksheet features a cross-section of an oil-field. This item can also be found on Slide 4.
- Ask the class to label the cross-section of an oil field correctly. You may like to ask one or two of the students to demonstrate prior learning by explaining the process of oil formation to the rest of the class once the diagram has been labelled.
- We are extremely reliant on non-renewable resources, particularly oil. It is unlikely that students will be aware of the range of uses that we have for this natural resource. Using Slide 5, ask students to select products which they believe to have been created using oil (all of them have). This can be run as a class activity, or students can work individually or in pairs.
