Defence news reporting

Synopsis

Students participate in a speaking and listening activity which involves a role-play based around news reporting. Supporting resources include two exciting news reports compiled by the British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS). One of the news reports focuses on the Armed Forces' role during the 2007 floods in the UK.

Learning Outcomes

Lower ability students will:

  • Be able to plan and draft elements of a script and storyboard with assistance.
  • Be able to deliver an extended oral contribution using talking to explain skill set.
  • Be able to analyse and critique the work of others effectively and respectfully.
Average ability students will:
  • Be able to concentrate on and recall most of the features of a television programme.
  • Be able to plan and draft a sound script and storyboard, using all available stimulus to inform their work.
  • Be able to deliver an extended oral contribution, using talking to explain skill set, structuring their talk well and using varying language, gesture and tone.
  • Be able to analyse and critique the work of others effectively and respectfully.
Higher ability students will:
  • Be able to concentrate on and recall all the features of a television programme.
  • Be able to plan and draft a stimulating script and storyboard clearly and efficiently, using all available stimulus to inform their work.
  • Be able to deliver an outstanding extended oral contribution using the talking to explain skill set, structuring their talk clearly and using varying language, gesture and tone.
  • Be able to analyse and critique the work of others effectively and respectfully.
