3. School lunches - interviews

Required Resources

  • Slides 6-7

Delivery

  • Students will prepare to write an article on healthy eating in relation to food in their own school, citing their own opinions and those of their peers.
  • Inform students that they will be interviewing two of their classmates on the subject of school dinners in order to provide them with quotes to use in their article. Students should take five minutes to draft: a) a list of questions that they would like to ask their classmates on the subject of school dinners at their own school. (Some students will need clear guidance over which type of questions they should be asking and how they are worded.) b) a list of bullets surmising their own position on the subject, either promoting the dinners as healthy and high quality (title a) or as unhealthy and low quality (title b).
  • Students should then interview two of their classmates, probing them for their opinion and quotes that might (or might not) support their own.
  • This is supported by slides 6 and 7; the points on slide 6 can help students structure their interview.

Differentiation

Lower Ability:

It is important to provide guidance for lower ability students concerning the way in which to ask effective questions and how to present the material in a manner which supports the trajectory of their article.
