How can I rate a lesson plan?
1.Make sure you are logged in.
2.Navigate to the 'Synopsis' of the lesson you want to rate.
3.The row of stars is the rating tool. The number of illuminated stars is the average rating out of five.
4.Scroll your cursor over the number of stars that you wish to award the lesson (1 = poor and 5 = very good). Then click to save the rating.
How can I use the Teaching Materials?
All Teaching Materials are free and can be used in a variety of ways. Choose to view materials online, download and save to CD Rom or desktop, print and distribute in class or present the resources using a projector or whiteboard. You can also adapt the lessons to suit your needs by copying text from the relevant online sections and pasting it into a Word document.
All Defence Dynamics materials are Crown Copyright, unless stated otherwise. For more information about the copyright of the resources, refer to the copyright footnote at the bottom of the website.
How do I change my personal details once I have registered?
1.Make sure you are logged in.
2.Go to 'Account', in the top right hand corner of the home page.
3.Click on 'My Profile' and then 'Edit Details' on the left panel of the page.
4.Edit your details accordingly and then click 'Submit' at the bottom of the page.
How do I download Multimedia resources?
To download animations, audio and video files complete the following steps.
1.Choose the multimedia resource that you want to download via 'Lesson Resources' within a lesson or by searching in the 'Multimedia Library'.
2.Click the orange button - 'Add to My Downloads' - on the left of the page.
3.Go to 'My Downloads' on the top right of the page and select 'View Downloads'.
4.Download the individual resource by selecting 'Single Download'.
5.Choose the 'Save' option in the dialogue box and the resource will be saved to your desktop.
6.Alternatively you could add a number of videos to 'My Downloads' and select 'Quick Download' to download all items.
How do I download Teaching Materials?
The Synopsis, Lesson Plan, Teachers Notes, Multimedia Resources and Student Worksheets can be downloaded as individual items or as a full lesson. Click on the Add to my Downloads button. You can decide whether to download the items immediately or at the end of your session. The student answers are downloaded within the Teacher Notes.
How to download a full lesson
Once you have entered an individual lesson plan click on the Add to my Downloads box in the left hand navigation panel in order to download the full lesson plan and follow the instructions below.
1. Choose to Save. NB. You must save a lesson before it can be opened in full
2. A Zip file will then be created on your desktop containing all the files and you can save this to CD Rom or your PC
3. Open the Zip file to view the individual resources.
NB. Full lessons containing large video files may take some time to download. Smaller sized files should download within minutes.
How to download individual resources
To download individual lesson resources, go to the Lesson resource tab in the left panel of the lesson plan landing page. All the resources are listed in a table with the different download options. The following options are available:
Overview (PDFs and PowerPoint) click to see an overview of the resource content, software required and estimated time to download
Open (PDFs only) click to open a PDF online. NB. PowerPoint slides and video cannot be opened in your browser and must be saved first.
Preview (videos only) click to see a compressed version of the video, plus a description of the content, software required and estimated time of download
Save (PDFs, PowerPoint, video) all resources can be saved. You must right-click on the Save option and select save as.

How do I log-in?
Simply enter your registered username and password into the log-in section on the homepage.
How do I register?
Select register on the Defence Dynamics home page and complete the simple registration form. You will then receive an email confirming your unique username and password.
How do I search Teaching Materials?
You can either use the search box in the top right hand corner of the homepage to search the whole Defence Dynamics website for a term. Alternatively you can use the filter functions to list the lesson plans for each subject by curriculum topic, MOD topic and rating.
How do I search the Multimedia Library?
1. Select the Media Type you require images, video or audio
2. Choose specific or all subjects
3. Insert Keyword if you want to refine your search
4. Hit Search
5. Select View Resource.
How do I view Lesson resources?
Lesson resources are available in PDF, PowerPoint and video format. All of the resources can be accessed by clicking on the Lesson Resources tab in the navigation panel on the left hand side of each individual lesson plan. PDFs and videos can be opened and viewed online but PowerPoint slides need to be saved and viewed on your desktop.
How do I view Teaching Materials online?
You can either click on the subject buttons along the left hand side of the homepage which will take you to a subject landing page listing all of the available lessons for that subject or click on the Lesson Plans button in the top navigation bar. Then simply click on the lesson plan which you wish to view and you will be taken to a synopsis page.
NB. Only registered teachers can view answers to Student Worksheets and these are downloaded as part of the Teacher Notes.
How will my details be used?
Teachers registration details will only be used for the purpose of Defence Dynamics. During the registration process, teachers are given the option for their details to be shared with other MOD agencies, which may send relevant information about their products and services.
What are Teaching Materials?
Defence Dynamics contains lesson plans and assembly plans to support a range of curriculum subjects. The materials aim to cater for every aspect of lesson planning and delivery, with supportive multimedia resources to bring the subject to life. Each lesson is comprised of the following sections:
Synopsis a concise overview of the subject, MOD Topic, curriculum and examination links, learning outcomes, prior learning requirement and Lesson resources.
Lesson Plan an outline of each lesson episode. Includes Learning Requirement, Objectives and Lesson resources. Lesson resources and further information, contained in Teachers notes, can also be accessed.
Teacher Notes provides all the information required to plan and deliver a complete and comprehensive lesson. The content can also be adapted to suit different teaching styles and learning needs. Includes Preparation and planning, About the MOD topic, Further opportunities for learning, Episode delivery, Lesson resources, and Differentiation. The answers to Student Worksheets are also downloaded in Teacher Notes.
Lesson Resources - supplementary resources to enhance the learning experience. Includes PowerPoint slides, Student Worksheets, images and video footage.
What is My Account?
My account is an area where registered teachers can alter their personal details.
What is the Multimedia Library?
The Multimedia Library contains a catalogue of MOD videos and images, which can be used to support lessons and enhance the learning experience. Resources that are related to specific lessons can be downloaded in Teaching Materials, but the Multimedia Library enables you to browse the full range of resources across all subjects.
What should I do if I am experiencing technical issues?
