MoD's commitment to education
Defence Dynamics is now entering its fourth year, with new teaching material added annually and existing resources updated with topical case-study contents and to reflect curriculum change. Over 7,000 teachers have registered with the site to date.
We Were There (www.wewerethere.defencedynamics.mod.uk) is an interactive photographic exhibition on the contribution made to UK Defence by people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Materials are particularly relevant to Citizenship and PSHE/PSD teachers of Key Stages 2 to 4.
RAF Target (http://target.raf.mod.uk/) is designed to give students the chance to put their mathematical and scientific knowledge into practice in real life situations.
Army in Education (http://armyineducation.army.mod.uk) features lesson plans across the curriculum, drawing on the work of the British Army to bring to life key learning points and encourage debate about the role of the Armed Forces in society.
A wider MOD outreach programme runs at over 200 locations, including MOD museums, research facilities and bases nationwide. The MOD Museums such as the Royal Naval Museum, National Army Museum and RAF Museums have all supported the curriculum through producing materials aimed at History, Geography, Science, English, Maths and Citizenship. The individual armed forces and MOD Agencies, such as the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and the Met Office, also produce their own acclaimed educational materials. Further information of these can be found via the useful links section.
