Aim
DE aims to promote and develop new and better ways of managing the MOD's estate which have been championed through the MOD's Project Alexander and Prime Contracting Initiatives. This is consistent with the department's vision and strategy for the future management of the defence estate to ensure major projects are delivered on time and to specification, providing value for money, while at the same time forging constructive relationships with industry.
In addition, Defence Estates' Projects Directorate is already involved in a number of legacy projects with the prospect of more to come, and it will soon be involved in assessment studies to begin the management of new projects from inception through to final delivery.
As the organisation's centre of excellence for estate-orientated Smart Acquisition and PPP/PFI best practice, the Directorate will maintain close links with specialists in the Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) to ensure that Defence Estates has a voice in the development of policies and practices, and benefits from the latest thinking
While responsibility for Regional Prime Contract procurement up to contract award lies with DE's Projects Directorate, once the Contracts "go-live" responsibility transfers to the Directorate of General Operations.
