Agency sourced temporary workers in education - Survey results 2007

The Department for Education and Skills’ Centre for Procurement Performance (CPP) is working closely with the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) to examine existing supply teacher and agency arrangements available to schools across London. The team were focused on looking at whether the existing market is fit for purpose and delivering a quality, safety focused and value for money service to schools.

The Team surveyed recruitment agencies across London who were asked to provide financial and qualitative information about their current services for school temporary staffing requirements.

Darron Cox, Deputy Commercial Director, was pleased with the response to the survey, saying;

"By building effective relationships with the recruitment professionals responsible for placing temporary workers into schools, we will continue to drive up standards whilst keeping a close eye on value. I am encouraged by the number of agencies, currently holding the Department/Recruitment Employment Confederation (REC) Quality Mark, who are willing to share their pricing structures openly and transparently with schools, providing them with the means to make informed choices on their agency staffing needs."

  • the teacher’s experience; and
  • distance from the teacher’s home.

Prices quoted are only applicable to temporary workers employed from 10 March 2007.
