Mini guide to procurement - for schools in England

A substantial amount of procurement in schools is carried out by people who have not had the opportunity to attend formal procurement training, ie NBA (National Bursars Association) or NCSL (National College for School Leadership).

In recognition of this the Centre for Procurement Performance (CPP) has drawn on work carried out by Doncaster City Council to produce a mini guide to procurement - for schools in England.

The guidance provides a set of some very useful questions to address, and tips to follow, towards a successful procurement outcome. The guide also steers the purchaser through the key processes to be applied in the form of flowcharts against three separate categories:

  • low value spend (under £10k);
  • medium value spend (£10k - £50k); and
  • high value spend (£50k - £144k).

As these values are a simple representation of local authority contract regulations, the reader is directed to check out the monetary values to be applied.

We will provide an updated on progress made in providing more comprehensive web-based guidance in the future.
