Primary Film Online
Primary Film
Online will research, develop and build a website that engages children
creatively with the moving image.
The project is designed in such a way as to delight and
motivate children as young as 6 years old to build their understanding
of film and film making, through the use of online tools and real world
activities. The project enables collaboration between children, and encourages
them to reach out into the community and harness filmmaking tools to communicate.
Children will be consulted and involved in all stages of the project.
The website development will evolve out of a series of consultations and
collaborations with groups of 6-9 year olds and their teachers, parents,
youth workers and other learning providers. The project is developed from
the bottom up – the core of the proposition being the key role children
play in developing and influencing the concept, content and ultimate look
of the website.
Primary Film Online will use both online and real world activities to
stimulate film and filmmaking and offer a unique multi-layered experience
– from computer to cinema, via the playground, home, classroom and
back again. There will be a strong educational underpinning to the project
and where appropriate, it will be linked to national strategies relating
to curriculum enrichment, literacy and the new primary strategy.
Consultations with children are beginning and will continue through to
the New Year, when the full-scale project will be launched.
Primary Film Online is a partnership project between First
Light, the UK Film Council,
the British Film Institute, CBBCi
and Creative Partnerships.
