ArtisanCam motivates schoolchildren to create art and crafts by giving them behind-the-scenes access to professional artists.

Bring artists into the classroom at the touch of a button
ArtisanCam encourages young people to get underneath the skin of artists, and inspires them to make art themselves. The project enables 'live watching' of artists in their studios and children also get the chance to discuss techniques and influences with the artist via video conferencing. The end of the virtual 'artist in residence' is followed by a series of video lessons including time-lapse 'masterclasses'.
The live and archived video is complemented with a wide range of online activities and step-by-step guides to making art and crafts fun - without the mess.
The project includes National Curriculum resources for Key Stages 2 and 3. Children can also enjoy the fun and games in the Activity Zone.
ArtisanCam covers lots of topics including weaving, painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, visitng exhibitions and screen printing.
Developed by Artists@Work, ArtisanCam has won praise from teachers and pupils alike. It claimed the top prize at the BETT Awards (2007) in the Primary (other) category and has previously been shortlisted for a BAFTA (2005) and a Webby (2006).
