Culture Online project grabs the headlines at industry award
A web site commissioned and funded by Culture Online has won industry praise at the Newspaper Society's Digital Media Awards. headlinehistory.co.uk won three top awards: Best Web Design, Best Promotion of an Online Service, and Best Digital Media Development.
The site provides children with a series of interactive virtual newspapers from specific periods in history. School kids are invited to report and edit special editions covering the Romans, the Tudors, the Victorians and 20th Century Britain.
The site, produced by Northcliffe Electronic Publishing, was commissioned by Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
One of the judges, Michael Nutley, editor of industry magazine, New Media Age, comments: "The standard of entries was very encouraging. What made this year's winners stand out was their impressive level of attention to detail - suggesting a genuine pride in each project and an understanding of what audiences now demand."
Claire Harcup, Commissioning Executive at Culture Online, said: "This is a fantastic result for us all and shows how Culture Online can bring people together to create engaging content through the latest technology."
