PE and sport for young people

We aim to make sport a natural part of every young person’s life in and out of school.

To achieve this we are working closely with the Department for Children, Schools and Families, The Youth Sport Trust and Sport England to offer the PE and Sport Strategy for Young People (PESSYP). This aims to provide

  • five hours of PE and sport for 5-16 year olds (including two hours of PE and one further hour in schools)
  • three hours of sport a week for those between 16 and 19

Our Guide to Delivering the Five Hour Offer (External PDF) is aimed at School Sport Partnerships, County Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies, clubs and community.

The Get Into It! toolkit can be used by schools and providers to promote sport to young people.

To find out what sports you can do in your area visit the Sport and leisure for young people page at DirectGov.
