Department for Culture Media and Sport
informal local government network
The Informal Local Government Network brings together local authority stakeholders in a virtual forum, to discuss ideas and proposals that will impact on the provision of culture and sport at a local level.
Members include a broad range of people across the UK who work for or are elected to local authorities, and who have an important stake in the culture and sport sector. Membership is intended to be flexible, with members leaving and new ones joining regularly.
Through this approach, we hope to achieve wide and positive engagement with local government at all levels and throughout the country.
The objectives of the Network are:
- To create a culture of openness and communication with regard to the work that DCMS does involving local areas
- To generate ideas and proposals that will have a positive impact on future DCMS work
These objectives relate to Public Service Agreement (PSA) 21, and also support our Departmental Strategic Objectives, particularly relating to the widening of opportunities for people to engage with culture and sport.
The Network meets twice a year with the DCMS Permanent Secretary and other members of the DCMS Board. The first meeting took place in February 2009
