new regional arrangements

Arts Council England, Sport England, English Heritage and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council now have a duty to work together.

In July 2008 DCMS announced the findings of its review of regional infrastructure. For the first time, the DCMS's four key agencies in the regions have a duty to work together to jointly deliver a core set of shared priorities across the culture and sport agenda.

The four priorities

  • Regional strategies
  • Improving relationships and developing services in partnership with local authorities
  • Place shaping
  • London 2012 Olympic and Paralymic Games and the Cultural Olympiad

Working practice

These new arrangements allow the four agencies to continue with their existing sector specific responsibilities, while contributing to the regional partnership in a targeted and effective way.

In each region the four agencies, working with partners in local authorities, the Regional Development Agencies, and other partner organisations, have agreed top priorities and created joint plans of action for the culture and sport agendas of their region.
