Department for Culture Media and Sport

living places

Living Places is a partnership programme to ensure that growing communities have access to high quality, well-planned cultural and sporting facilities.

We are working at national level to promote and support good planning for sport and culture. This is very important for sustainable communities, regeneration and housing growth.

The Living Places programme brings together five leading cultural agencies and their sponsoring departments, to focus their work and use public sector resources efficiency and effectively. Partners are:

  • The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
  • The Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG)
  • Arts Council England
  • Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE)
  • Museums Libraries and Archives (MLA)
  • English Heritage
  • Sport England
  • Housing Communities Agency Academy
  • Culture and Sport Planning Toolkit

The Living Places website hosts the Culture and Sport Planning Toolkit (CSPT). This is a unique ‘one-stop shop’ online resource for planners, developers and local authorities, to help them to plan high-quality cultural and sporting facilities.

Priority Places

Local partnerships in five Priority Places include local developers, regional development agencies and local authorities, working together to improve cultural and sporting infrastructure.
