youth cultural offer

Why is arts education important?

Arts education stimulates pupils’ imagination and motivates their interest in learning, which helps them to achieve more. It can also lead to a lifelong love of the arts and encourage young people to choose creative careers.

Our objectives

  • everyone gets the chance to experience and participate in the arts, inside and outside school
  • everyone has the opportunity to deepen their interest and fully develop their artistic talent
  • our most talented young artists have access to the best tuition and are supported to fulfil their potential Children making a Art mural
  • there is a skilled workforce in the arts sector, including world class arts education staff

Children and Young People’s Culture team

This team brings together a range of government funded programmes from DCMS and Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) offering cultural experiences to children and young people. The joint team:

  • provides a single delivery framework
  • creates powerful new cross-cultural opportunities
  • allows us to share knowledge learnt from the different programmes
  • helps realise our vision for a universal culture offer
  • strengthens working arrangements across the two departments
