Stadium for the nation
The construction and operation of the new national stadium at Wembley is the responsibility of Wembley National Stadium Ltd (WNSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Football Association.

The new 90,000 seat stadium will have the capacity to be used for major football, rugby, athletics, music and other cultural events.

There is still work to be done before the first games can be played at the new stadium but the all-important turf is now laid and has been mown.

WNSL will announce a date for the opening of the stadium in due course.

How much is the public sector contributing to Wembley?

The £757 million Wembley Stadium project is receiving £161 million of public funding from the following sources:

  • £120 million of Lottery Funding from Sport England
  • £21 million from the London Development Agency
  • £20 million from the DCMS for non-stadium infrastructure works
