What is Sport England?
Sport England is responsible for delivering the Government’s sporting objectives by promoting and investing in sport and delivering on the vision to make England an active and successful sporting nation.
They are committed to creating opportunities for people to start in sport, stay in sport and succeed in sport, believing sport has the power to change people’s lives.

What else does Sport England do?
Sport England is responsible for promoting and investing in sport by distributing both Lottery and Exchequer funds to sport:
- Working hard to make England more active and encourages people to get involved with sport and physical activity
- Distributing funding and invests in a range of sporting projects, including the Active England fund
- Influencing decision makers and public opinion on sport.
How is Sport England organised?
Working through nine regional offices, in tandem with their regional sports boards, their knowledge base and expertise in sports development drives their work with central and local governments, health professionals, National Governing Bodies, teachers and the voluntary and commercial sectors.
What funding is available?
Community investment – grants over £10,000
the nine regional sports boards have responsibility for decisions about grants over £10,000.
Projects are assessed against the priorities in each region’s sports plan and the National Framework for Sport.
It is very important that you check both your region's sports plan and the
National Framework for Sport before contacting Sport England with your idea.
Once you are ready to proceed, the first step is to find out whether your project meets their basic criteria. All the information you need to make an application can be found on the Sport England website
Grants between £500 - £5,000
If you are looking for a grant of between £500 and £5000, you should apply to the Awards for All grants programme.
National investment
Sport England is investing £130 million in 30 key sports. This investment is distributed in conjunction with the national governing bodies plus a range of national partners.
