We aim to strengthen the links between schools and local sports clubs, increasing youth membership of accredited sports clubs.
The programme is being delivered through the governing bodies of 22 sports.
What exactly is a Club link?
A school-club link is an agreement between a school or school sport partnership and a community based sports club to work together to:
- Meet the needs of all young people who might want to get involved
- Provide new and varied opportunities for young people
- Help young people to realize their ambitions in sport and dance by providing pathways for them to follow
- Agree good standards of provision, putting in place quality controls to ensure that standards remain high
What has been done so far?
- 800 multi-skills clubs are being set up for primary school age children. These clubs will provide more opportunities for children to develop basic physical skills, acting as a stepping-stone into club sport.
- Dance links have been developed by the National Dance Teachers Association and Youth Dance England, with support and funding from the Department.
Dance Link aims to increase participation in Dance beyond school, providing better choice and higher quality of experience.
- Publication of school-club links – helping to strengthen links between schools and local sports clubs
