sport and health

What’s the connection between sport and health?
Most people are aware that the level of obesity is increasing across the UK.  Partly due to physical inactivity, it is a public health problem, creating health risks for many people.

Physical exercise through sport can help to address these risks. There are many health benefits you can gain by being more active, including a lower risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer.

What we’re doing about it – the Everyday Sport Campaign
Our designated lead body, Sport England, have launched the innovative Everyday Sport Campaign

Everyday Sport aims to show that getting active can be fun, easy and great for improving your health and wellbeing. It has loads of ideas for getting active.

Famous faces from the worlds of sport, entertainment and politics are backing the campaign, as well as local authorities, hospitals, GP surgeries, businesses and sports clubs across the country.
