community sport

We aim to increase participation in community sport right across the country by improving the quantity and quality of sporting opportunities at grassroots level through:

Sport and health
Through the Everyday Sport Campaign, Sport England is helping people across the country get involved in sport.

Community clubs funding
The Community Club Development Programme provides funding for Community Sports Clubs so that they can develop their sports facilities to help widen access and increase participation.

Football Foundation funding
The largest sports charity in the UK, the Football Foundation provides funding for the sport at grass roots level,

Skills
Skills training for coaches, trainers and teachers of sports have been improved through Skills Active.

Young Apprenticeships also help to promote skills of young people, with the support of the sports sector.

Volunteering
“Runningsports” is an online resource with tips, tools and workshops that can help volunteers get more for themselves, their clubs and their members.

Sports Leaders UK provides training for the nationally recognised Sports Leader Award.

Local Government
We work with local government to ensure that sports are at the heart of all local council’s strategic planning and included in the Audit Commission’s Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) framework.

We have also helped create a self assessment tool for sports organisations – Towards an Excellent Service (TAES).
