museums, libraries and archives council (mla)

The MLA, which we sponsor, is the lead strategic agency for museums, libraries and archives. It advises government on policy and priorities for the sector.

It acts as a powerful advocate for the three sectors, and promotes innovation and change.

We work closely with the MLA on taking forward three key strategies:

  • Framework for the future
    The first ever national public library strategy, and an action plan aimed at delivering improvement across English library authorities.
  • Renaissance
    A programme of investment focused principally on regional museums across England.
  • Listening to the past, speaking to the future
    A strategy for national knowledge management, and for saving and storing our present for future generations.
