We have three broad areas of interest in the field of post-16 education:
Supply
We are keen to support the work of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in raising standards in formal post-16 education and training. This ensures that all cultural or artistic subjects, and all vocational courses for the cultural, sporting, leisure, hospitality or creative industries, are of the highest possible quality.
We are keen to see Centres of Vocational Excellence (COVEs) in DCMS-related subjects (arts, media, sport and hospitality/tourism and craft skills).
Demand
It is vital employers are committed to training and development so that skill levels, productivity and performance can improve within DCMS's industries.
We work closely with our sponsored bodies, the Department for Education & Skills and employers to ensure that all of our sectors are covered by Sector Skills Councils. These will identify the skills needs of the sectors and develop and deliver national standards, vocational qualifications and workforce development plans to address them.
Engagement
Our sectors can assist providers in delivering high quality education and training.
Broadcasters are major players in the education field, both in terms of supporting formal and informal learning, while museums, libraries, galleries, archives, arts organisations and the built and historic environments are educational resources which provide learning opportunities to people of all ages and backgrounds.
